InterCal — Privacy Policy

Introduction

InterCal is a multilingual calendar and event-management app that supports 11 calendar systems. We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data the app uses and how it is handled.

In short: your calendar events, settings, and preferences are stored only on your device (and, if you enable it, in your personal iCloud account). The app has no accounts, no advertising, and no analytics, and we do not sell any data.

Data Stored Locally

All of your events, reminders, settings, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We do not collect, access, or store this data on any developer-controlled server.

Optional iCloud Backup

If you enable the backup feature, your events and settings are backed up to your personal iCloud account using Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple, is stored in your personal iCloud account, is governed by Apple's privacy policy, and is not accessible to us or any third party. You can disable iCloud backup at any time in your device Settings.

Calendar Access

If you choose Import from Calendar or Export to Calendar, the app asks for calendar permission and copies events on this device using Apple’s EventKit. This includes iCloud Calendar and any accounts you have already added in Settings, such as Google. Event titles, dates, notes, and recurrence are read or written when you import, export, or while Sync with Calendar is on. We do not upload this data to any developer-controlled server.

Public Holidays

If you enable holiday countries in Settings, the app downloads public-holiday lists from the Nager.Date service (date.nager.at). Only the country code and year are sent. Holiday names are cached on your device. We do not upload your events or personal data to this service.

Location Data

Location is used only to power two features. Both become active only after you grant location permission:

Prayer times — Off by default. When you enable prayer times, the app sends your approximate coordinates and the selected date to the Aladhan API (api.aladhan.com) to calculate prayer timings. The app may also use Apple's reverse-geocoding service to determine your region so it can select an appropriate default calculation method.
Weather — On by default. The app sends your approximate coordinates to OpenWeatherMap (api.openweathermap.org) to retrieve current conditions and a 5-day forecast. The app may use Apple's reverse-geocoding service to determine your city name for display.

We do not store your location on any developer-controlled server, and we do not build any location history.

Notifications

If you grant permission, the app schedules local notifications for your events, reminders, and prayer-time alarms. These notifications are processed entirely on your device; no notification content is transmitted to any server.

Data We Do Not Collect

We do not require or collect an account, name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
We do not sell, rent, or share any data.

Your Choices

Grant or deny location permission in your device Settings.
Grant or deny calendar access in your device Settings.
Choose which holiday countries to download in the app's Settings.
Enable or disable the weather and prayer-time features in the app's Settings.
Enable or disable notifications in your device Settings.
Enable or disable iCloud backup in your device Settings.
Delete your events in the app, or uninstall the app to remove all app data from your device.

Children's Privacy

The app is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and we will update the “Last Updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
